United States of America’s Secretary of State, Marco Rubio today cautioned Venezuela against attacking Guyana or ExxonMobil’s assets offshore Guyana.
Speaking at a joint press conference with President Irfaan Ali at State House, Secretary Rubio said there will be consequences for Venezuela should there be an attack against Guyana.
Prior to Rubio arriving in Guyana the Guyana Defence Force and the United States Navy conducted joint exercises in international water and the Guyana Exclusive Economic Zone to exercise communications and interoperability and practise joint manoeuvres.
This comes weeks after Venezuela naval vessel entered Guyana’s waters and questioned captains operating FPSO about their presence there.
Guyana’s government alerted its international partners including the United States who condemned Venezuela’s action.
