A nineteen-year-old and a twenty-one-year-old are in police custody in connection with their involvement a robbery underarms and the abduction of a fifteen-year-old girl in the Regional Police Division of Region 3 (Essequibo Islands -West Demerara)

According to a statement issued by the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Police Force five masked men armed with cutlasses attacked a bar at La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara on Monday at 23:00hrs and attacked the owner of the bar Richard Ghanshan – 59 and robbed three persons including the 15-year-old.

The men robbed Sahodra Ghanshan of a cell phone valued at $50,000 and a quantity of gold; eighteen-year-old Raphal Sarwan who is the cashier of the at the bar was robbed of an Acer laptop valued at $120,000, two iPhone both valued at $260,000, a Samsung cellphone valued at $50,000 and $300,000 in cash; while the fifteen-year-old was robbed of an iPhone valued at $150,000 and a gold ring valued at $200,000.

When the men attacked the establishment, Richard Ghanshan was at the back tending to his dogs while the others were in the upper flat of the relaxing.

As the five men were leaving they grabbed the fifteen-year-old, pulled her onto the public road and pushed her into a white fielder wagon bearing registration number PAH 7157.

According to the police’s statement, the men lost control of the car in the vicinity of Pouderoyen and ended up in a trench. An alarm was raised, and a team of police officers responded where they rescued the teenager. Two of the five suspects were arrested – Perciven Aaron called Barban – 21 of Thomas Street in the city and Isaiah Bowen called Pranks – 19 of Church Street Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara.

Several items stolen from the property were found in the back seat of the crashed car. The police are continuing their investigation.

 Richard Ghanshan and Raphal Sarwan who were attacked by the men were treated at the Leonora Cottage Hospital for their injuries and sent away.
