A thirty-eight-year-old Sophia woman is in police custody in connection with the killing of her alleged abusive reputed husband.
The deceased who has been identified as Ivor Thornhill succumbed to injuries, he sustained following a Christmas night beating. Thornhill’s body, according to a statement issued by the Corporate Communications Unit of the Police Force, bore multiple stab wounds to the face, stomach, and ear.
According to a statement, Thornhill’s reputed wife Leslyn Norton told investigators that her husband is known for physically abusing her and accusing her of being unfaithful to him.
The statement said that the woman told investigators that while at the Kitty Market, the two had a misunderstanding where he accused her of being unfaithful.
Later one back in their Sophia community, while at a shop, she observed him (Thornhill) imbibing – there he again accused her of being unfaithful; threatened to kill her; and threw a bottle in her direction. Norton said she just walked away.
She claimed that while heading home, she observed Thornhill walking on the dam and hiding behind bushes. She said she saw two unidentified males on the dam and told them that Thornhill was following her and that she was fearful for her life. The men, she said, told her to continue walking and that they would look for Thornhill.
She further related witnessing her husband being in a scuffle with the two men, following which she ran home, returning a short while later where she saw her husband covered in blood, being placed in an ambulance. The woman said she returned home and the following day she went to the hospital where she learned that Thornhill had died while receiving treatment. This prompted her to report the matter to the Turkeyen Police Station.
However, a man in the community said he heard his dogs barking, and upon checking, he saw an unidentified man ride past him. As he exited his yard, he heard a voice calling for help. As he followed the voice, he saw Thornhill lying on the ground with blood. As he ran, raising the alarm, he saw Norton sitting a short distance from Thronhill.
The neighbour said as he related to Norton what happened she replied that ‘Is good fah he, he should dead’. The man said he called for an ambulance which transported Thornhill to the hospital.
The statement said during the processing of the scene, ranks found a knife. Checks were made for the suspects, but they were not located. A postmortem examination is to be carried out on the body to ascertain Thornhill’s cause of death. The investigation is continuing.
