A 69-year-old pensioner is in police custody in connection with an accident which claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.

The accident according to a statement issued by the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Guyana Police Force occurred on Monday in the mining town of Linden at the intersection of Amelia’s Ward Public Road and Toucan Drive.

Reports are that the car with registration number PXX 4611 which is owned and driven by Juliet Alexander was heading North along the western drive lane of Toucan Drive whilst the deceased Joshua Ross on his motorcycle with registration number CN 6284 was proceeding East on the northern drive lane of Amelia’s Ward Public Road at a fast rate and in a zig-zag motion without a safety helmet.

As the car and motorcycle approached the intersection, the car stopped and then attempted to cross the public road when the motorcycle hit the front of the left side of the car resulting in the collision.

Ross was flung several feet from the point of impact and landed on the northern parapet where he sustained injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Ms. Alexander, the CCU said, is cooperating with investigators.
