A Linden father – Kester Johnson who tied a sheet around the neck of his one-year-old daughter before tying the sheet to a tree where she was left hanging for some time, has been arrested for ill-treatment.

Johnson is expected to be charged tomorrow as a file is being prepared for child abuse. While the child has been left traumatised, there are no marks of violence on her body.

According to a statement issued by the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred on March 22 at their Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden home.

Johnson reportedly recorded the incident which he then sent to her mother, Sawdia Bobb.

Investigators contacted Bobb who related to them that she had the recording on her phone but later deleted it, claiming that she did not want people to know about the incident because of her daughter’s age. The video was retrieved from phone’s recycle bin.

The woman told investigators that she and Johnson share two other children apart from the 1 old year. They are three and two. She also accused him of abusing her on two separate occasions, the first of which occurred in February which caused her to temporarily move out.

The second occasion was on March 22, the same day he tied the toddler to the tree. She reported the abuse to the police station but did not give a written statement, claiming she would return but never did.
