Following the announcement of 38% tariffs on goods from Guyana imported into the United States, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday said that the government would contact US officials in the hope of having the tariffs reduced.
Guyana, along with more than 180 countries worldwide, learned on Wednesday that increased tariffs will be imposed on goods imported into the US.
During his announcement on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said, the calculation of the new tariffs took into consideration the combined rates of all a country’s tariffs and non-monetary barriers which were cut in half to arrive at the released tariff figures.
