A Guyanese with Canadian citizenship was on Thursday extradited to Canada to answer to criminal charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of House Affairs, the fugitive Harry Narine Rajkumar was arrested six years after he fled Canada resulting in Interpol issuing a Red Notice.
The ministry said Rajkumar waived his rights to an extradition hearing after he was arrested, consenting to return to Canada to face the charges. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, where formalities for his extradition were completed.
Rajkumar’s extradition to Canada is the first, marking a milestone in bilateral relations and collaborative efforts to combat crime fighting.
According to the ministry, the extradition not only underscores Guyana’s commitment to international law enforcement cooperation but also its dedication to ensuring that justice is served, regardless of borders.
