A twenty-six-year-old Friendship, East Bank Demerara man, Tristan Franklyn is in police custody after he was found with counterfeit notes in his possession.

According to a statement issued by the Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) of the Guyana Police Force, Franklyn on Tuesday paid a Banks DIH cashier $80,000 in $5,000 bills all of which appeared to be fake. The fake bills were turned over to a rank at the Police Stabroek Outpost after the cashier identified Franklyn to the police.

Franklyn made the payment to the cashier at Banks DIH Cornhill Street, Stabroek location in the Capital City of Georgetown for the purchase of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Following his arrest, ranks searched a haversack Franklyn had in his possession and found $180,000 again in $5,000 notes all suspected to be forged.

The notes, the release said, will be sent to the forensic laboratory analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
