Scores of persons converged this morning in front of the Lombard Street office of Mohamed Enterprise after a social media page Daily News falsely publicized that businessman Azruddin Mohamed was distributing $100,000 to the first 1,000 persons. Reports are that the persons had begun to gather from as early as 4am.
In a facebook post Mohamed warned the public to be wary of misinformation, adding that it was unfortunate that the real issues affecting the Guyanese people and their families are being manipulated by known associates daily.
According to Mohamed the entity used its social media platform to disseminate false information and disrespect Guyanese.

Among the many who gathered were pensioners and some who were wheelchair bound.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement said the announcement was false and unauthorized. According to the Ministry no such event was planned or endorsed by Azruddin Mohamed or any government agency. The announcement, the ministry said appeared to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and to create unnecessary confusion.
The ministry said it was urging citizens to remain vigilant and to verify information through official government channels before acting on announcements of this nature. It also urges persons who may have information regarding this fraudulent activity, or if they were approached in relation to the scam to report the same immediately to the nearest police station.
