A 50-year-old East Coast Demerara businessman is in police custody and his licensed firearm seized after he discharged a round in the vicinity of the Route 44 minibus park last night.

The man who has been identified as Michael Thomas of Bachelor’s Adventure was arrested by ranks of a mobile patrol. The investigating ranks who were on mobile patrol heard what sounded like a gunshot and proceeded to the Route 44 bus park. Once there, they observed the man putting what appeared to a firearm in his pants waist.

A search was conducted on Thomas and ranks found a .32 Taurus pistol with two magazines along with 14 rounds of ammunition.

Thomas when asked if he is a licensed firearm holder, said yes and produced the license. He was arrested and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station where the firearm, spent shell and ammunition were placed in evidence. Ballistics were taken for analysis.
