The body of the missing Chinese national Fu Jian Wei who fell into the Demerara River on Wednesday was recovered this morning.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Works, Fu’s body was found by officers of the Coast Guard at 9:55 hrs.
The statement said the body has been handed over to the Guyana Police Force as the force continues its investigation into the accident. A postmortem examination is to be conducted on the remains.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill said the government is committed to workers safety and has called on the contractor to ensure that the necessary safety measures are immediately implemented to guarantee the well-being of all workers for the remainder of the project.
