President Irfaan Ali today appealed for calm in the mining town of Linden following the killings of two young men – Ronaldo Peters and Dan Johnson.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Local Content Summit, President Ali said an independent investigation will be launched into the killings.
“We are going to ensure that with independent support, this matter is dealt with professionally and that this matter should not be exploited politically.”
The Regional Security System will be contacted to lend support to the investigation. According to the President, there is a process that must be followed, and that process is being followed.
The findings from the investigations into the shootings will be fully pursued, President Ali said. The two police officers involved in the shootings of the young men are presently under close arrest.
