High Court Judge Gino Persaud on Saturday issued a temporary order preventing the Guyana Revenue Authority from seizing four vehicles, the property of Azruddin Mohamed and his sister Hana Mohamed.
The vehicles in question are two Toyota Landcruisers; on Lamborghini Aventador and a Ferrari 488. The Ferrari is the property of Hana while the other three vehicles are registered in the name of Azruddin.
According to GRA it has until Thursday to file a response to Mohamed’s application for judicial review and a full injunction.
GRA said it will continue to act in accordance with the order issued by the Court and the laws administered. The officers were instructed to discontinue the operation which was aimed at the possession of the vehicles for the taxes owed and breaches to the remigrant agreements pending the decision of the Judge.
GRA says it administers the law in a fair and consistent manner, regardless of who the taxpayer may be. In the cases in question, letters were sent via email on three separate occasions over a month inviting the Mohameds to make arrangements to satisfy their debts to the authority.
Earlier on Saturday GRA officers were forced to retreat from the residence of the Mohameds after they attempted to seize the vehicles.
