The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) today issued a statement denying that Hadi’s World of which businessman Azruddin Mohamed is Company Secretary or any of its associates were granted permission to conduct cabotage operations in Guyana. Cabotage is the right to operate transport services within a particular territory.

MARAD in its press statement said any previous exemptions granted to the company have expired and consequently, those vessels are not lawfully allowed to operate within Guyana.

The Maritime Administration said it is in receipt of a request for Cabotage exemptions for the vessels: Motor Tug Amelia, Motor Tug Machelo, Deck Barge Miriam and Deck Barge Carmelia, from Hadi’s World, signed by its company secretary, Azruddin Mohamed. This request was not granted and as such the vessels are not authorized to operate within Guyana, MARAD said.

According to MARAD if any of the vessels are found operating without the requisite permit, they will be subject to detention or any other penalties under the laws of Guyana.

Businessman Azruddin Mohamed and two companies he is associated with Mohamed’s Enterprise and Hadi’s World have been sanctioned by the United States Government.

Sanctioned alongside Mohamed was his father Nazar Mohamed and Mae Thomas the former permanent secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs for their roles in public corruption.
