The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Agency for Public Information is reporting that six (6) assessors attached to Guyana’s Engineer Battalion and Civil Defence Commission are in the country for a one-day visit.

The statement said, the visit was the fulfilment of a promise made to Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves by Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali two weeks ago, in which the Guyanese President said he would send workers to St. Vincent, specifically the Southern Grenadines, to assist with the rebuilding efforts there.

The six-member contingent which led by Commander Roger Nurse comprised Lieutenant Colonel Dale DeMendonca, Lieutenant Colonel Cranston France, and Lieutenant Colonel Drumson McCaulay, Retired Colonel Mark Thomas and Lieutenant Shaquille Wilson.

According to the statement, Commander Nurse said the visit was to look at the situation and assess what is needed to aid the rebuilding process in the Southern Grenadines. He added that in a few days about 20-25 workers from Guyana’s military brigade are expected to journey to St. Vincent to begin their contribution to the recovery process as promised by President Ali.

The Guyanese contingent was met at the Argyle International Airport by Guyana’s Honorary Consul Nigel Russell.

Since the incident with the Venezuelan incursion into Guyana’s water interlocutor Ralph Gonsalves has been silent on the process, except for a statement coming from the CARICOM Secretariat.
