Embattled Assistant Police Commissioner Calvin Brutus on Thursday said there seems to be a targeted campaign to force him to resign from the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Brutus, in a social media post questioned why the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) has been delaying his trial despite filing more than 200 charges against him.
Brutus has been charged with misconduct in public office, money laundering and collecting money under false pretense.
The Assistant Police Commissioner said the repeated court delays is an indication that the state has no real case against him, suggesting that the charges are meant to frustrate him into early retirement and block his promotion to Deputy Commissioner.
According to Brutus the government never expected him to stand and fight the way he is doing now.
“The government who is fully behind this charade is not accustomed to this level of push back from people they choose to go after. This level of push back has caught them off-guard and so now they are confused”.
Brutus said his position remains the same, “I will stand and fight these charges and all that they are doing to me, I will be nobody’s whipping boy, I will be nobody’s poster boy for corruption”.
