An investigation has been launched into the deaths of two Airy Hall Mahaicony men earlier on Wednesday.

The dead men have been identified as Roger Pierre – 49 who the police described as a drug addict and was said to be of unsound mind and pensioner Frederick Williams – 68 who attempted to subdue him. Both men are from Airy Hall, Mahaicony.

Based on a statement released by the Corporate Communications Unit of the Police Force both Pierre and Williams were shot when ranks discharged rounds as Pierre was stabbing Williams with a knife.

According to a statement issued by the police the tragic event started at 9:30 hrs at Huntley Mahaicony where Pierre stabbed Laldat Tooknauth – 63 who has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where his condition is listed as critical.

Pierre, according to the police, then moved to Novar School Dam where the police responded to calls that he was causing panic. 

However, the ranks found him on the Dundee Public Road with a knife in his hands.  The statement said as police ranks attempted to disarm him, Pierre resisted.

The situation however escalated in Pierre’s home village of Airy Hall, Mahaicony. There he attacked residents with glass bottles, sand, and a steel rod. A pensioner Lambert Nunes – 69 was injured to his left hand with the steel rod.

In an attempt to subdue Pierre and turn him over to the police, Frederick Williams and two other men from the community tackled him to the ground. However, Pierre managed to free himself and jumped on Williams, with the knife in his hands stabbing him repeatedly to his head and other parts of his body. At his point police officers at the scene discharged multiple rounds at Pierre who collapsed.

Both Williams and Pierre were taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where Pierre was pronounced dead on arrival. Williams however, succumbed while being treated for his injuries.

According to the police’s statement gunshot wounds were observed on both bodies of Williams and Pierre. Additionally, multiple stab wounds were observed on Williams’s head and body.

The office of Professional responsibility has since launched an investigation into the incident.
