The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Tuesday announced that it will be proceeding with final disposal of twenty-five unclaimed bodies from its mortuary. This will be done within the next fourteen days.
According to a press statement released by the country’s primary health care institution efforts were made to contact the next of kin once stated but to no avail. As such it is publicly appealing for persons who may have connections to any of the listed twenty-five to come forward and claim the bodies for burial. The list is available on the hospital’s facebook page.
Once the body is claimed then relatives will have to stand the expenses associated with burial which some families cannot afford.
Twenty of the twenty-five deceased have no next of kin listed. However, of the same twenty, addresses were listed for eight. The data provided shows that twenty-three of the 25 are males. The ages of nine of the men are unknown while five are of the age to receive pensions.
Persons have been known to abandon their relatives at the hospital. In the cases of pensioners, some families were forced to collect their relatives who were discharged after the Ministry of Human Services and Social Services had stepped as it relates to payment of pension.
