A 63-year-old West Coast Berbice man lost his life on Saturday afternoon as he was riding his bicycle along the No. 28 Village Public Road.

The man who has been identified as Stanford Benjamin was a resident of the same No. 28 Village.

Benjamin, according to a statement from the Police, was struck down by a car bearing registration number PZZ 7256 which was being driven by Malcolm Nurse, a 65-year-old of New Amsterdam.

Nurse told investigators he and Benjamin, who was on his cycle, were heading in the same Western direction along the Southern side of the road and as he attempted to overtake the cycle, Benjamin suddenly swerved into the path of his car resulting in the collision.

Benjamin, who fell onto the roadway sustained injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was admitted but died while being treated.
