The bodies of a twenty-six-year-old farmer – Ajay Budhan and his eighteen-year-old
girlfriend Ashley Singh discovered on a farm at Long Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke
Highway are being treated as a murder suicide by police.
The communications department of the police force in a press statement said the
discovery was made between half past midnight and 6:30 hrs. today on a trial in the
predominantly farming community.
According to the statement Twenty-six-year-old Budhan is a licensed firearm holder of a
semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun. He is also the owner of a white Toyota Tundra with
registration number GAD 8403.
The police said a twenty-three-year-old farmhand of Long Creek, while riding a
motorcycle saw the truck parked on the northern side of the trail with its lights on and
what appeared to a bullet hole in the right side of the front door glass. Upon seeing that
he alerted the police.
When officers arrived, they saw the lifeless body eighteen-year-old Ashley Singh
slumped in the right front side seat with that appeared to a gunshot entry wound on the
right-side neck and an exit wound to the left side neck and shoulder. The body of Ajay
Budhan was found on the ground, face up to the left of the vehicle. He was found with a
gunshot wound to the right side of his head with the shotgun to the right of his body.
During an examination of the weapon, a round was found in the breach. There were 18
empty 12-gaugecastings and nine live 12-gauge cartages recovered at the scene. The
body of Ajay Budhan was identified by his brother Aaron Budhan, a farmer at Loo Creek
while Ashley Singh’s body was identified by her Cousin Roland Baya, a resident of Hill
Foot, Soesdyke/Linden Highway. A post mortem examination is expected to be
conducted on the bodies.
